They have so many similar functions. You may use both of them at the same time. Why? Some of your friends are accustomed to using Skype, while other WeChat. After my long-time experience, I summarize some key features and highlights.

You can see when someone is typing a reply, which can prevent confusion.
3.You can stay invisible
Status: Skype: 6 kinds, like QQ. Online, busy, leave, don’t disturb, offline.
WeChat: no.
4.File size
Skype can send large size files, while there is a limitation in wechat.
5.Moments, news
Fewer people post Moments, news on skype, while moment and official account posts are main features on WeChat. So Skype is more suit for office online communication than WeChat.
6.Screen share
Screen share is a significant function of skype different from WeChat. Screen share is really of great help when you need to share your works to your colleague instead of sending to him.
User interface design
They are all online communication tools. Form follows functions. The most simplified and minimalist user interface design.
Skype is focused on chat and real-time calls. The visual design is more thoughtful. It is an amazing experience when you try to call your friend via mobile Skype, there would be a dynamic curve flowing while calling, it makes me a very deep impression. WeChat is very powerful with many functions, it is an all in one application. The main color style is green. Though it has many functions, thanks to the clear information architecture, it still gives people a feeling of simpleness and orderliness.WeChat connects everything. It is so universal that even the old sellors in the market can use it without much time learning cost. You can see how successful this product is.
